About Acting up
Who We Are
At Acting Up we believe that Drama is for life, not just for the stage.
With this in mind, at Acting Up we offer classes and workshops that are designed to build confidence, self awareness and above all fully equip students and adults with the ability to be themselves in any situation.
Acting Up was created by Salli Collins, a Native British Drama Teacher in 2013.
Salli has been passionate about Drama and the theatre from an early age. Moving to Hong Kong, Salli realised there was a gap in the market for Drama Specialists with her experience and vision. Over the past 6 years Salli has seen a real growth in the number of schools now wanting drama on their curriculum or as ECA Activities. Hong Kong Speech Festival is also a very high profile competition and we have over the last 9 years taught students both for solo, duologue and group competitions, all with excellent results.
With studio’s in Lai Chi Kok and Tung Chung, we offer tailor made classes for both kids and adults who wish to begin or hone their skills.
Our drama classes start at age 5 and normally have maximum 15 students. Students are introduced to the basics of drama over the 12 week course. Over that time we study:
Stage awareness and orientation
Character creation and development
Costume, lighting and sound
Poetry and story telling
Script analysis and writing
At the end of the 12 week course, we will put on a performance for parents.
Speech and Presentation Classes
This class is either tailor made for the specific student or follows an 8-10 week course based around Preparing and Presenting a speech. Under this heading we also train for Hong Kong Speech Festival competition.
We will cover:
Writing our own speeches
Preparing for a presentation
Presenting do’s and don’ts
During these classes the student can choose to work on something specific, perhaps an upcoming role or audition, or we can work on a certain genre, theme or writer. These classes are tailor made to suit the individual needs and requirements of our students.
Under this heading we also offer LAMDA examination classes. LAMDA is a Worldwide recognised qualification for actors over the age of 5. This 10/12 week course offers acting coaching and advice, writer and director analysis and stage skills and techniques. The course culminates with an exam with a professional LAMDA examiner. LAMDA allows the actor to explore new techniques, learn new skills and also delve deeper into the realms of drama and characterisation. Upper grades also have the added advantage of adding points for University and College applications.
